How to Clean a Fish

So… you caught a fish – now what? How to Clean a Fish Open up the gill and then slice towards the head at an angle. Turn the fish over and repeat. The head should be easy to remove at this point. Insert your knife in the vent on the underside by the tail and gently slice up the center of the fish. Remove loose organs. Open the fish – you will see a black line running the length of the fish – slice this open and then use your thumb to push out the contents. Remove any pieces of the gill that remain. Rinse in clean water. Done!

The Easy Way to De-Bone Cooked Trout

In this video, we demonstrate the easy way to debone trout. First cook the trout using which ever method you prefer – for a quick easy recipe click here. First remove the fins. Cut through the skin at the spine (near the tail of the fish) to give yourself an access point. Hold the tail and then use your knife to gently push the meat down.  The cooked trout will split into two parts with the bones sticking to one side. Flip the fish over so that the bones are facing up and then starting near the tail grab the spine and gently lift  – you will be able to remove all the bones at once. Easy Peasy
