HOW TO PLAY / RULES:
SBF Card Game – Quick Rules Guide
Setup
– Deal 5 cards to each player.
– Flip 6 cards face-up to form the Market.
– Youngest player goes first.
– Turns move clockwise.
On Your Turn
1. Draw 2 cards – choose from the Market (face-up) or the Deck (face-down).
2. If you take from the Market, those spots stay empty. The next player refreshes the Market before
drawing their 2 cards.
3. Play up to 3 cards (you can also pass).
4. End your turn with 7 or fewer cards. Discard or play to get there.
How to Win
Build A farm that produces fish and eggs. Prepare yourself for pests and other attacks from opponents. Winner = The first to collect a minimum of 10 Fish and 10 Eggs (or more for longer games). Keep score on a sheet of paper!
Card Types
– Green: Farm cards (Hens, Ponds, etc.)
– Orange: Action cards (trades, attacks, bonuses)
– Purple: Defense cards (Donkey, etc.)
– Pink: Gretchen the Goat – only card that can be played on someone else’s turn
How to Farm
– Green cards (Hens, Ponds, etc.) go in front of you – this is your Farm.
– Use Harvest cards (Fishing Pole, Egg Basket) to collect Fish or Eggs.
– Stressed animals don’t produce!
Pests & Pest Control
– Pests (Mice, Herons) stress your Hens and Ponds.
– Use Cats (for Mice) and Puppies (for Herons) to protect your farm.
– You need equal or more Cats/Puppies than pests to harvest.
– Pests and Pest Control cards stay in your Farm. They are only removed by Shotgun or Coyote cards.
Trading Fish and Eggs
– Standard trade: 2 for 1 (each trade uses 1 of your 3 plays).
– With Farmer’s Market card: Unlimited 1-for-1 trades in a single play.
– Note: Trades can be blocked by Gretchen.
Card Layout
-Please see advised layout below.
-You will be holding a max of 7 cards and have your farm cards laid out in front of you for all to see.
-It’s best to keep egg-related farm cards on one side and fish-related cards on the
other for clarity and ease of play.
For example:
Fish Side: Pond – Dog – Heron
Egg Side: Hen – Cat – Mice
Extras: Storage Shed / Rooster
Final Notes
– Most other cards explain themselves.
– Master farming and harvesting – that’s the heart of the game!
– Watch your opponents and always be ready for Gretchen.
YOU NOW KNOW ENOUGH TO DEAL AND START PLAYING – This will likely be easier to play an open hand for the next 10 minutes while everyone learns. Every card has it’s action explained on it as well!

More on Pests
– Hens can be stressed without Ponds being stressed and vice versa. This means you can still
collect Fish or Eggs even if the other is stressed.
Example: If you have 2 Ponds, 1 Puppy, and 1 Heron – your fish are not stressed, so you can
harvest 2 Fish. If you have 2 Hens, 1 Cat, and 2 Mice – your hens are stressed, so you cannot
collect Eggs (even if you play a harvest card).
Special Cards
* Coyote: Removes 50% of pest control or pests from farm. Can be blocked with Donkey.
* Gretchen the Goat: Instantly blocks any card within 5 seconds. Can be chained.
* Shotgun: Choose 1 – steal a card, block a shotgun attack, or remove a pest/rooster/coyote.
* Faith the Sheep: Match another player’s Fish or Egg count (if they have under 10).
* Farmer’s Market: Trade as many 1-for-1 resources as you want in one play.
